With the event + wedding season roaring in its busy season, our calendars are booked – as we are sure yours are too! This brings the question “what am I going to wear?” to mind.  

Whether it’s a fun floral dress from a local boutique like Chelsea’s in downtown Sioux Falls or an elegant, sleek dress from Rent the Runway or even Amazon, nothing feels better than an outfit you feel confident in.

Inspired by so many looks, we’ve gathered some of the best dress options we have found over our years of eventing. From business casual to cocktail, to formal, we will be sharing our favorite dresses + wear you can find these items to add to your wardrobe. 

Business Casual

Paige has the perfect little black dress for a business casual look. You can pair it with fun strappy sandals or sneakers with chunky silver + gold jewelry. This dress also pairs nicely with small handbags + accessories. You can do anything with this dress + why not wear something comfortable while eventing it up!

You can catch Kali in a sleek business casual look. This is close to my favorite jumpsuit that I wear all the time! Kali loves to pair her favorite jumpsuit with a jean jacket for a more casual look or with a leather jacket or blazer for a more business look!

Cocktail

Molly prioritizes versatility in her professional wardrobe – so when it comes to her go-to dress for an event with a cocktail dress code, she prefers to grab a satin skirt! This investment piece can be paired with a variety of tops, giving the wearer the feeling of “something new” without having to break the bank. Matching the color of the top to the skirt gives the appearance of wearing a dress, while still having the flexibility of a two-piece set. Spice it up with a sequin crop top or keep it classy with a simple turtleneck, this skirt will last you through every season!

Where are our shift dress lovers at? Alli loves to be in her leggings or joggers + tennis + hoodies, so she keeps the comfort by wearing a fun caramel shift dress! She never worries about readjusting her cocktail dress, this dress just simply moves with her throughout the chaos of an event! It is the most fun to have a dress that matches the colors for an event, but neutrals are good too! Another great color option is this blue shift dress!

Chesney likes to keep things simple + comfortable + breathable, especially in the summer months! One of her favorite go-to dresses is this satin black dress from Amazon with a cowl neck. She actually has this dress in two other colors, but the midnight black is the perfect classic look for an evening event that can simply be dressed up with a slicked-back ponytail + gold hoop earrings + a simple open-back heel. 

Formal

Believe it or not, Addie has an entire part of her closet dedicated to all of her gowns + dresses. That’s right! When her husband, Drew, built their current house, he knew all of the formal attire that Addie has from past + future events, that he built her a space to store all of her favorite party attire. Being in the event industry means quite the collection of black dresses. Pictured below is Addie in one of her fabulous black mermaid-style off-the-shoulder gowns. The best part about this dress is the half-open back to make quite the statement. While this gown and tassel earrings are no longer available for purchase from H&M her Nine West black ankle strap chunky heels can be found here, these are all a staple in her closet. Investing in staples like these earrings + comfortable heels is a go-to for any formal event.

Lexi loves giving off the perfect Jennifer Anniston look from the 90s when it comes to dressing up for formal events. Who else is with her?! This 90’s vibe is truly timeless + elegant. Not only does Lexi feel like a showstopper in this dress, but so will you! Accent this black dress with these simple gold hoops + gold bracelet  + gold chain necklace.  Paired with the comfiest Steve Madden black heels, you will feel comfortable + confident the entire night.  Is the event outside? No stress! Lexi loves to complete this style with the perfect ’90s sunglasses at any outdoor venue.Instead of opting for a long, formal, black dress, Kendra loves to turn heads with this stunning red number. If you know Kendra, she is all about standing out + you for sure will be in the spotlight with a bright red dress like this! She loves the site Revolve + always finds unique, quality pieces from this site. Pair with simple gold earrings + a gold bracelet + you are good to go!
